The library provides limited quantities of commonly requested tax forms from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and the Illinois Department of Revenue. Quantities are limited and are available on a first-come, first served basis.
All forms and instruction booklets for both federal and state taxes are available online, and can be printed at a cost of $0.10 per page for forms that do not require color text or images. As a courtesy, the library provides a binder of the most common tax forms for patrons to copy at a cost of $0.10 per page.
Library employees are not able to give advice on tax issues, or to recommend the use of any particular tax form. Reference staff are able to show you how to access forms online.
If you have questions about your state taxes, you can contact the Illinois Department of Revenue though their (Taxpayer Answer Center) http://tax.illinois.gov/QuestionsAndAnswers/ or by calling (800) 732-8866.
For questions about federal taxes, the IRS has a (Help Site) https://www.irs.gov/help/telephone-assistance for frequently asked questions, but can also be reached at (800) 829-1040. The nearest Taxpayer Assistance Center is in Rockford and can be reached at (779) 500-6808.
Volunteer tax preparers from AARP often provide services at the library during tax season. For more information, please contact the Adult Services department at (815) 756-9568 ext. 2150 or [email protected].
