Community Boards and Display Case

Community Boards

It is part of the DeKalb Public Library’s function to provide access to intellectual and cultural resources of the community. The Library has a community board on each level. These boards are intended to be used to promote events, initiatives, and opportunities of nonprofit entities serving DeKalb and nearby local areas.

In general, the Library does not accept commercial notices for any group unless they have a special educational, informational, or cultural value to the community. The Library does not accept any materials being offered for sale to the public unless the proceeds are intended directly to benefit the Library. Designated Library staff have complete discretion over materials posted on the community boards, and will decide on the content and arrangement of materials. The Library reserves the right to refuse to display materials that are found to be offensive or that do not meet the Library’s standards of quality. Outside groups, organizations, nonprofits, businesses, or individuals cannot post directly to the community boards, but must submit their materials for approval by designated Library staff.

Materials can be left at the circulation desk for consideration. In order to be considered, flyers must be neat and clean, and must be letter sized (8.5” x 11”) or tabloid sized (11” x 17”). It is not the intent of the Library to provide permanent or continuous community board space to any specific individual or group.

For businesses or individuals wanting to post promotional materials that do not meet the standards for free usage, please see our advertisement opportunities.

Display Case

The library has a glass display case in the main lobby near the circulation desk that can be reserved by local non-profits to promote services, initiatives, general information, and upcoming events. The case may be reserved for one month at a time, no more than twice a year. The display case may be used only in accordance with the library’s Public Services policy, and the library reserves the right to refuse to display materials that do not meet the policy guidelines or reasonable standards of quality.

Representatives for the non-profit are responsible for setting up and taking down their displays and must coordinate a time with library staff to set up their display at the beginning of the designated month and take down their display at the end of the designated month. The library can provide several acrylic stands and holders within the display case. All other materials must be provided by the non-profit.

To reserve the library’s display case or if you have any questions, please contact Samantha Hathaway at [email protected] or at (815) 756-9568 ext. 1701.
