August is Dog Month!

Aug 27, 2023 | Kids, Library & Family Fun, Reading Romp!, Uncategorized

Dogs are known for their loyalty as man’s best friend, but aside from being great companions, many also take on additional roles that help all sorts of people with a variety of different things.

Some work with police and military in positions like search and rescue and detection, while others work with us as service or therapy dogs.

Handlers and therapy dogs often volunteer as a fun and meaningful way to give back to the community. In fact, at the DeKalb Public Library we have the “Read to Rover” program where kids have the opportunity to read to therapy dogs Emma and Annie who visit us on a regular basis!

Check our calendar for more information about dates and times to join our “Read to Rover” program.

Can’t make it to our program? Take a story home! Come take a look at some paw-some books about our furry pals:

If any of these books are fetching your attention, go to our online catalog or call the Youth Reference Desk at (815)-756-9568 ext. 3350 to place a hold on one of these titles!
