Are you enjoying Summer Reading? If you’re entering grades 6-12 and haven’t signed up for the Teen Summer Reading Program yet, what are you waiting for? There’s still time! You can sign up online via Beanstack or come into the Teen Room to register up until August 6th (the Summer Reading Program ends on August 7th).
If you have registered and read for 10 hours or more, you can come to the Teen Room and pick up your prizes. Make sure you don’t miss out on cashing out your hard-earned rewards! Speaking of which, why not take a look at some of our sponsors who mad earning these prizes possible!
REGISTRATION PRIZES:
Did you know you get a prize just for registering? It’s true. You can have a festive fall exploring Kuiper’s Family Farm with a buy one get one half off weekday admission bookmark. If you like pizza and need something sweet afterwards we also have a coupon for a free cookie (with purchase of a medium pizza) from Papa John’s.
WEEKLY DRAWING:
Speaking of pizza, Vinny’s Pizza has provided us with coupons for a free large one topping pizza. Anyone who has logged time in Beanstack (even if it’s less than 10 hours) is entered in a weekly drawing to win. Vinny’s is one of our regular sponsors (they provide the pizza for our PS5 Sports tournaments and NIU Teen STEM Cafes). We also have a weekly drawing for a coupon for a free large one topping pizza from Little Caesar’s. If you’re really lucky you can win both!
GRAND PRIZE DRAWING:
What are the biggest things you can win by participating in the Summer Reading Program? That’s up for debate, but it’s hard to argue against our potential grand prizes. Every 10 hours you read, you earn a digital raffle ticket on Beanstack. You have to choice to use that ticket towards either of the grand prizes (if you have multiple raffle tickets, you can put all on one prize or some on each).
We’ve partnered with Fargo Indoor Skatepark and Shop on a number of programs, and the Summer Reading program is no exception. They’ve provided us with one of our grand prizes, a free skateboard!
If you’re not interested in skating, we still have you covered. Corn Fest is an annual tradition in DeKalb and if you want to go on as many rides as possible you’ll need a Corn Fest megaband. The more you read the higher the chances you’ll be able to save $80, by winning a free megaband which allows you to go on rides for free all weekend long.
Only one person can win each of these grand prizes, but there are plenty of others to earn along the way.
10 HOUR PRIZES:
DeKalb County United‘s home season is over, but they were a great partner providing free tickets to everyone who read 10 hours (and a big part of a previous blog). They still have away games left and also hold events in the off-season, so keep an eye on their website for more details.
Don’t worry though, we still have other 10-hour prizes. You can enjoy a free slider from Arby’s or a free lemonade from Raising Cane’s.
20 HOUR PRIZES:
Even if you don’t win the grand prize, you can earn a free beginner skateboarding lesson from Fargo Indoor Skatepark and Shop by reading for 20 hours. If skateboarding works up your appetite, why not use a coupon to enjoy a free appetizer at Texas Roadhouse.? If you want to see a championship winning baseball team, you’re in luck because we also have a voucher for two free tickets to see the Kane County Cougars who are two-time defending American Association of Professional Baseball champions.
30 HOUR PRIZES:
If you are sorry you missed our American-Themed Escape Room, you can still enjoy an Escape Room experience by earning a $10 off coupon for a Virtual Escape Room at Wreck Room. If smashing things (safely) is more your style, $10 off coupons for a wreck room at Wreck Room are also available at this level. Star Worlds Arcade has been in DeKalb for more than 20 years. If you’re interested in checking out their old school arcade machines we have a coupon for 5 free tokens. If you attended World of Reading in March, you may have had a chance to sample a savory pie from Treehouse Pie Company in Sycamore. If you liked what you tasted or just want a slice of made-from-scratch pie, we have a coupon for a free slice of pie for you. If you have a sweet tooth, but want to stay in downtown DeKalb, we have coupons for a free McDonald’s ice cream cone. The Kishwaukee Family YMCA has an indoor pool, basketball courts, a weight room and more all of which you can enjoy by earning a free family day pass!
FREE BOOKS:
What’s the point of reading more than 30 hours? Besides grand prize raffle tickets, you can earn a free book to keep every 10 hours up to 50 hours. These books are courtesy of donations from the Friends of the DeKalb Public Library. The Friends are a non-profit organization who helps raise money for library programs and equipment. Do you enjoy the Playstation 5 and foosball table in the Teen Room? Both of those are courtesy of the Friends. What better way to celebrate reading than to add to (or start) your own personal library?

Did you reach 50 hours and still want to keep reading? That’s great! Keep logging your hours until August 7th and we may have something special for you.
