If you’ve visited DeKalb Public Library, you know that we offer more than just books. This is especially true in the Teen Room, a space especially designed for tweens and teens in grades 6-12.
One of the things that makes it a great place to be are our four available video game consoles: Playstation 5, Playstation 4, XBox One and Nintendo Swtich.
We have a wide variety of games across consoles (including games you can play at our twice-monthly PS5 Sports Tournament). Here are some of the best games you can play the next time you stop by DKPL.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (Nintendo Switch)
Mario Kart 8 originally launched on the Wii U, but very few people had a Wii U so, for a few years, it was the most underplayed entry in the long-running series. When Nintendo ported it over to the Switch (with enough new content to add a “Deluxe” to its name), it quickly became one of the best-selling games ever made. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is the ultimate Mario Kart game: It features 96 courses, 42 characters, 42 vehicles, and endless customization options. Fortunately, there’s no such thing as too much Mario Kart.
Pokémon Champions (Nintendo Switch)
If you grew up with nostalgic millennial relatives, you might have played one of the Pokémon Stadium games on Nintendo 64. Like those games, Champions cuts out all the adventuring, Pokémon catching, and leveling up. Instead it focuses entirely on the series’ classic turn-based battles. So if the battles are your favorite part of Pokémon, this game is for you. If you want to prove you’re the very best, like no one ever was, challenge your friends to a round of Pokémon Champions.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (Nintendo Switch)
Is Super Smash Bros. Ultimate the best fighting game of all time? It lets you pit Minecraft Steve against Isabelle from Animal Crossing, Sora from Kingdom Hearts, and Mr. Game and Watch, so there’s definitely a case to be made. And with 89 playable characters, Ultimate lives up to its name. It’s the ultimate Smash game.
Fortnite (Playstation 5, Playstation 4, Xbox One)
As one of the most popular games in the world, Fortnite needs no introduction. It’s a place where players of all ages can battle as their favorite fictional characters from Goku and Spider-Gwen to real people like Chappell Roan and Sabrina Carpenter. Bring some friends, drop at Sinister Strip, and blast your way to a Battle Royale.
Rocket League (Playstation 4, Playstation 5)
Did you know that Rocket League is actually a sequel? Before this game featuring backflipping cars playing soccer, Psyonix made a game with a similar premise called Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars. It was released on Playstation 3 in 2008, got mediocre reviews and, unlike its mega-hit sequel, wasn’t very popular. But it had a more on-brand name. Which name do you like better?
