Every year, Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated from September 15th to October 15th .

During this month we make the time to honor the cultures and contributions of Hispanic and Latinx America.

National Hispanic Heritage Week was established by legislation sponsored by Rep. George Brown Jr. of Los Angeles and signed into law by President Lyndon Johnson in 1968. This was later expanded from a week to a month long celebration by President Ronald Reagan.

There are many ways that we can celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, but reading is our favorite! By reading non-fiction titles, bilingual stories, or books by Latinx authors and illustrators, we can learn to appreciate a culture through different perspectives. This can help us be more understanding of the communities that surround us, and they can teach us about customs, traditions, and experiences that we wouldn’t have known about otherwise. You could even visit us at our Bilingual Play and Learn with 4-C and start learning some Spanish words while you create fun memories with your little reader!

Here are a few of our favorite books by Latin authors and illustrators; we hope you like them as much as we do!
