1,000 Books Before Kindergarten

Jul 27, 2020 | Kids, Library & Family Fun, News

Reading to your child builds language and literacy skills that last a lifetime. It also offers a chance for you to bond with your little one. To help get your child ready for school and ready to read, join us in reading 1000 Books Before Kindergarten!

To participate, sign up at the Children’s Reference Desk, then keep track of the books your child listens to or reads. This can be done on paper or using the free “1000 Books Before Kindergarten” app (available on Android and iPhone). Visit the library every 100 books to receive a certificate and mark your child’s progress on our Wall of Reading.

Children who complete 1000 books will have their name and picture posted in a special display in the Children’s Department. Additionally, parents and other important adults who played a big role in reading to the children who complete the program will receive coupons to local businesses like Common Grounds Coffee Shop, Kid Stuff, Barb City Bagels, and The Gaming Goose (formerly known as The Gaming Goat).

Sign up today to get started on your child’s reading journey!
