1000 Books Before Kindergarten

Reading to your child builds language and literacy skills that last a lifetime, and also offers a chance for you to bond with your little one.

Join us in reading 1000 Books Before Kindergarten to help get your child ready for school and ready to read!

All you need to do to participate is keep track of the books your child listens to or reads, either on paper or the free 1000 Books Before Kindergarten app (available on Android and iPhone).

Once you sign up you will receive a car to color and add to our Wall of Reading. As soon as your child reads 100 books, stop by the Children’s Reference Desk to receive a certificate and move your car to the next stop on the wall. Children will receive a new certificate for each 100 books read. Those who complete 1000 books will get their name and picture posted in a special display in the Children’s Department.

Because we recognize that parents and other important adults have a big role in reading to children, we have a special prize for you, too: coupons to local businesses like Common Grounds Coffee Shop, Kid Stuff, Barb City Bagels, and The Gaming Goat.

Sign up at the children’s desk to get started on your child’s reading journey!
