We are proud to announce that The Legacy Wall, created by The Legacy Project in Chicago, will be arriving to our library this fall! This exhibit will be on display in our Main Lobby from November 7 to 20.
This one-of-a-kind, digitally-interactive, traveling exhibit features “mini-biographies” of LGBTQ people throughout history, from virtually every walk of life, who have contributed in over 20 distinct fields. This positive and inspiring piece explores the stories of historical figures including Jane Addams, Alan Turing, Sally Ride, Leonardo da Vinci, Frida Kahlo, and many more. The goal of the Legacy Wall is to begin conversations that will help create a culture of mutual respect and tolerance, and, by celebrating LGBTQ role models, to give our LGBTQ youth a sense of hope and belonging.
The Legacy Wall exhibit will be acoompanied by a display about local LGBTQ history presented by the DeKalb County History Center. This project would not be possible without the support of our partners, including the DeKalb County History Center, the Ellwood House Museum, and the DeKalb County Community Mental Health Board.
