Whether you’re a avid reader, someone who stalks the new CD shelf, or an audiobook addict, you know that DKPL’s collection is stocked to the brim with the freshest possible media! At DeKalb Public Library, our staff strives to stay on top of new and popular releases to make sure our patrons have access to all of the new materials that come out each week, however, sometimes the works that are most important to you can slip through the cracks when we create our orders at the top of each month. This is especially true when it comes to our DVD collection: although we read the articles, scroll the streaming services, and comb the lists of nominations during awards show season, there are simply too many incredible films being released to keep up with (and keep in budget)! Luckily, through interlibrary loan and our “select a purchase” form, we can likely get you exactly what you want, when you want it.

Interlibrary loan (ILL) is the process and practice of requesting items from, or providing them to, another library. ILL allows us to provide our patrons with items that are not in our collection. DeKalb Public Library is a RAILS library. All RAILS libraries have delivery of ILL items available (within Illinois) without charge, as a benefit of system membership, through RAILS and the Illinois Library Delivery System. DKPL patrons can borrow any item that they can find in our library catalog for free, just like the resources we keep here in the building. To place an item on hold, all you have to do is login the library catalog with your library barcode and PIN (the last 4 digits of your barcode) and request the item or give us a call at 815-756-9568 ext. 2150 and we can put the item on hold for you! Once the item arrives, we’ll contact you, and you can come pick it up at your convenience! To learn more about interlibrary loan, please visit our website or give us a call.

If an item is not available in our library or via ILL, patrons can fill out the “Suggest a Purchase” form on our website and our staff will give the submission careful attention to determine if the item is a good fit for our collection! If the item is a good fit and it is available for purchase from a legal, reliable source, we’ll give the patron who submitted the request a call when it comes in and is available for checkout. One of our most important resources is you; we love to hear your suggestions and learn about the media that matters most to you!

Last month, our movie selector had a blast choosing from new releases! Here are some of the newest Blu-Rays and DVDs in DeKalb Public Library’s collection:

If you’re a movie fan looking to connect with others with similar interests and get out of the house for some fun and classic films, we love if you’d join us for two of our upcoming programs: Midday Movie Classics and Classic Musical Sing-Along!

Midday Movie Classics is the perfect place for anyone who is a fan of movies from the ‘50s, ‘60s, ‘70s, and ‘80s! It is not just a showing of a random movie off of our shelves, it is so much more! A dedicated library staff member carefully chooses a movie based on recommendations and research, assembles a list of movie trivia to test your knowledge, and serves a delicious spread of lemonade, coffee and popcorn to give you a more authentic movie-theater-like experience! In February, you can enjoy Tombstone (Rated R) on February 13 from 10:00- 12:30 and True Grit (Rated G) on February 27 from 10-12:30. If you have any questions, please contact Susan at 815-756-9568 ext. 2114.

Classic Musical Sing-Along brings your favorite musicals to the projector in an energetic, fun new way! Join fellow musical lovers as we sing, laugh, and reminisce over some of the best musicals of all time. This program features printed lyric packets so you never have to scramble for the words, fresh popcorn, lemonade, and coffee. This program is open to all ages! In February, we will watch West Side Story (PG) and fawn over one of the most touching Romeo and Juliet-inspired tales ever told. For more information, please contact Amy at 815-756-9568 ext. 6108.

If you have any questions about our collections or upcoming programs, please contact us at [email protected] or 815-756-9568 ext. 2150! We are always happy to help you!
