We are thrilled to announce that we’ll be hosting DeKalb Day of the Dead’s third annual Celebration of Life on November 1!

Walk with us in our Welcoming Procession as we honor those who have passed. We will meet at El Jimador to begin the procession at 2:00 p.m., and will then walk to the library, where you can view ofrendas created by DeKalb community members.

Enjoy crafts, activities, and performances throughout the library, and stay for an after-hours performance by the NIU Mariachi Band at 5:30!

Stop by WNIJ-HOLA and describe what Day of the Dead means to you. Share your story, your family’s story, or what you’ve learned about this holiday.

Food trucks from Nina’s Tacos and Tako Sushi will have food and drink available for purchase outside the library.

Thank you to DeKalb Day of the Dead for coordinating this amazing event, and thank you to all of our sponsors and community partners: Create Health Mobility Clinic, El Jimador, Michaels, Jubilee Art Studio, Willrett Flower Company, The DeKalb Area Rapid Response Team, The DeKalb YMCA, PNC Bank, Northern Illinois University, WNIJ-HOLA, Kalon Beauty Bar, and Séance at Tiffany’s.

Visit DeKalb Day of the Dead on Facebook to see updates and details as we get closer to the event, and to find out how to get involved as a sponsor or participant in setting up the community ofrenda displays.
