Our Main Lobby display case in August has been set up by the Barb Food Mart!
Barb Food Mart is a non-profit organization founded in 2013 to help alleviate food insecurity for children and families in the DeKalb School District. More than 60% of the students in the district qualify for free and reduced meals, and Barb Food Mart strives to serve these students and connect families with community partners and services when needed.
Their mission is to promote dignity, equity, and choice while reducing food insecurity and increasing access to community resources. They operate as a dignity-based food security resource offering online ordering to 200 families each week, as well as limited indoor shopping for families who cannot order ahead. They also collaborate with community partners to increase access to essential wrap around services that can address the root causes of poverty.
Barb Food Mart recently dedicated The Amy Fontana Branch at Mitchell Elementary School, which will help extend their services to even more of our families and neighbors.
And on Tuesday, August 18, stop by Ollie’s Frozen Custard during their fundraiser to get a sweet treat and support the Barb Food Mart! 10% of all sales that day will come back to Barb Food Mart and help kids head back to school with full bellies, ready to learn.
