DeKalb Public Library begins 2026 with the goal of expanding your access to media and materials, amplifying your creative skills, and bringing you new and exciting performances and events celebrating the history of our country. As we commemorate the 250th anniversary of our nation, our mission to Enrich, Inform, Entertain, and Inspire has never been more important. Learn more about overlooked American figures such as Robert Smalls, hear traditional Native American music, sample food from Colonial America, live the Honky Tonk life for a night, and much more!

In addition to large events, we’ll also host several displays in the main lobby throughout the year that pay tribute to our society and history. Learn more about the Declaration of Independence, immigration, and our nation’s journey from its foundation through the Civil War. Story times, book clubs, and smaller events will often have an American theme. Listen to tales and tunes of the Midwestern Minstrel, Burl Ives, hear the true story of Sacajawea, dance along to Ragtime favorites, pick a horse at the Kentucky Derby, and ride the American rails with Conductor Cody. The list goes on!

Find out more about some of our featured events and exhibits below, and check back often as we add more programming throughout 2026!
