Did you know that you can use your library card for more than checking out books, movies, and music? Your card is a doorway to experiences you might not otherwise have access to.
Looking for a day out with your family or by yourself? Your library card can grant you free or discounted access to many popular attractions in the state of Illinois, as well as a few in Wisconsin and Iowa.
Explore More Illinois lists several different options, including the Bronzeville Children’s Museum, the Chicago Maritime Museum, and the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago, Cantigny Park in Wheaton, the DuPage Children’s Museum in Naperville, and the Tinker Swiss Cottage Museum in Rockford. You can request these passes yourself with your library card number and PIN. (If you don’t know your PIN number, stop by the reference desk and we’ll reset it for you.) You’ll make a reservation for a specific date and print out the pass. You can show the pass on your mobile device at most locations.
The library also offers Museum Adventure Passes. They must be checked out in person at the library. Come to the Reference Desk or Youth Services desk for assistance. Some of their attractions include Brookfield Zoo and the Chicago Botanic Garden in Chicago, the Elwood House in DeKalb, the Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center in Skokie, the Lizzadro Museum of Lapidary Art in Oak Brook, and the Naper Settlement in Naperville. Passes are available on a first-come, first served basis, and only one may be checked out per family every seven days.
