Did you know that in addition to the thousands of Teen Fiction books we have here at the DeKalb Public Library, we also have numerous Non-Fiction titles available to check out? These books cover a wide variety of topics ranging from relationship advice, sports, animals, current events, and so much more! So look on the shelves between the Teen Room and Sound Studio if you want to make November the time to learn something new.

Inaugural Ballers by Andrew Maraniss  Learn about the struggles and triumphs of fighting for sports equality in women’s basketball in the United States. Follow along with the history of the first official college women’s basketball team to the first women’s Olympic basketball tournament. This story covers topics such as sexism and misogyny in sports, the fight for equal rights, and the origins of one of the greatest US Women’s Olympic basketball teams.

The Marvel Book by Stephen Wiacek Are you a major Marvel fan or someone trying to understand the lore around the Marvel Universe? Then this book is for you! Dive into the background of characters such as The Hulk, Doctor Doom, The X-Men and so many more. Exploring recurring themes and concepts seen throughout the various universe, this book is the go-to in understanding everything Marvel.

Animal Allies by Elizabeth Pagel-Hogan Calling all animal lovers! This non-fiction title looks at 15 women across the world and the amazing work they have done for animals and the environment. Learn about their work researching and conserving spiders, wolves, amphibians, birds and more. Dive into this book and learn about the roles animals play in our environment and the importance of studying and protecting these beautiful creatures.

Rising from the Ashes by Paula Yoo Take a step back in time and learn about the 1992 uprising and protests held in Los Angeles as a direct result of systemic challenges and social issues. Paula Yoo looks at the lives of those who lives were lost or forever impacted by violence such as Rodney King, Latasha Harlins, and Edward Jae Song Lee. Yoo uses interview transcriptions, photographs, and newspaper articles to provide multiple point-of-views to relay this heartbreaking story.

How to Survive Your Parents by Shawn Goodman Using his previous experiences as a teenager, along with his current role as a psychologist, Goodman makes a “How To” guide on dealing with challenging parents. If you’re having issues with your parents, this guide is a starting point to help you identify and solve communication and boundary issues.

American Spirits by Barb Rosenstock Uncover the truth about the two sisters who shook the nation during the nineteenth century. Follow Kate and Maggie Fox as they begin what is now considered modern-day Spiritualism by preforming séances and talking to spirits from the other side.
