What Can You Do WithOUT a Library Card?

Sep 29, 2025 | News, Adults, Kids, Personal Enrichment, Teen

In honor of National Library Card Sign-Up Month, this post is all about what you can do…without a library card!

Don’t get us wrong! If we could, every one of us here at the library would all carry spare library cards in our pockets to fling at people like ninja stars, but that doesn’t mean the library is only for people with library cards. Quite the opposite, in fact. You need a library card to check out and take home books and materials, but the library offers much more than that!

Here are just a few of the things you can do at the library, no card required:

1. Attend our story times, classes, concerts, workshops, crafts, and all of our other programs and presentations

2. Reserve our study rooms, meeting rooms, and Sound Studio

3. Use our computer lab and print your documents for free (up to 100 pages)

4. Read, study, or work in a quiet, cozy spot in our lobby, at one of our study tables, or in our Quiet Room

5. Play and learn in our Youth Department, in the Tree Room, with our new Super Space Building Tiles, or on the youth computers

6. Ask our reference librarians for guidance about local resources and research subjects

7. Utilize our voter registration and notary services

8. Make an appointment for individual ESL tutoring

9. Grab a take-home craft from our Youth or Adult Department

10. Take seeds for your home garden from our Seed Library in the Adult Department

National Library Card Sign-Up Month is almost over, so if you don’t have a library card, we would love to help you get one! But with or without that card, we hope you’ll stop by your DeKalb Public Library, and explore everything we have to offer!
