Thanksgiving at the DKPL

Nov 21, 2023 | Kids, Art and Crafts, Educational Connections, Library & Family Fun

On the fourth Thursday of November, people in the U.S. honor the early settlers and Native Americans who came together to have a historic harvest feast; this is known as Thanksgiving!

People celebrate this holiday by gathering with friends and family as they share a nice meal. Some of the traditional Thanksgiving day food includes mashed potatoes, green beans, stuffing, pumpkin pie, and turkey!

This day was made an official federal holiday in November of 1941 by President Franklin Roosevelt, although it had been regularly celebrated in the United States since President Abraham Lincoln declared it a holiday in 1863.
