We’ve made it through another harsh Midwest January, and even though it’s still rather chilly outside, we’re warming hearts here at DKPL! Romance novels are flying off the shelves, and our librarians have planned picture-perfect programs to help fill that hibernation-induced, library-shaped hole in your heart.

This month is packed with fun, and we hope you’ll join us, but before we look ahead, let’s take a moment to revisit our top 10 romance reads of 2025. These titles were the most checked out from our romance collection, and they’re guaranteed to get your heart racing just in time for Valentine’s Day. Whether you prefer your love stories sultry, silly, or downright steamy, there’s something on this list for you!

DKPL’s Top 10 Romance Reads of 2025

Coming in at number ten is Funny Story by Emily Henry. This witty, heartwarming romance follows a couple navigating love, life, and unexpected twists, filled with laugh-out-loud moments and charm.

Next on our list is It Happened One Summer by Tessa Bailey. A hilarious, heartwarming romance full of banter, small-town charm, and undeniable chemistry.

Number eight is Life’s Too Short by Abby Jimenez. The third in the ‘Friend Zone’ series, this novel follows two people learning to embrace love despite life’s unexpected twists. This sweet story blends laughter, tears, and an unforgettable romance.

Next most checked out is The Strawberry Patch Pancake House by Laurie Gilmore, the author of another fan-favorite, The Pumpkin Spice Cafe. Set in a charming small town, this feel-good romance blends comfort, connection, and a slow-burn love story you can savor.

Our sixth most popular book is Slaying the Vampire Conqueror by Carissa Broadbent, bringing a thrilling fantasy twist to the list. This enemies-to-lovers romance is packed with danger, dark magic, and sizzling tension.

In the fifth spot is Abby Jimenez, once again, with her novel Say You’ll Remember Me. Centered on a whirlwind first date and the complicated reality that follows, this novel explores what happens when love is right, but the timing isn’t.

Next, we have Ali Hazelwood’s novel Deep End. This smart, steamy romance delivers her signature blend of sharp banter, swoony chemistry, and lovable, brainy characters.

In the third spot is All the Missing Pieces by Catherine Cowles. This moving romance is rich with emotion and perfect for readers who love stories about finding love through heartbreak.

In the second spot, we have The Friend Zone by the ever-popular Abby Jimenez. This novel blends laugh-out-loud humor with heartfelt moments, delivering a friends-to-lovers romance that’s both charming and sincere.

In the number one spot, we have The Last Letter by Rebecca Yarros! This love story is an emotional powerhouse: tender, devastating, and impossible to forget. Bring tissues and clear your schedule, because once you start, you won’t want to put it down.

February 4, 6:00- 7:00 PM- Painting Valentine’s Day Coasters

Looking for a special gift for your Valentine this year? Decorate a premade coaster, designed to be assembled in layers. Each piece will be pre-cut on the library’s laser cutter. Whether you’re looking to put together something sweet for your sweetheart or just a nice decoration for your home, you’ll find variety to suit your creative whims!

February 9, 7:00- 8:00 PM- Romance Book Club

The Romance Book Club is getting together to discuss An Extraordinary Union, a gripping Civil War–era romance filled with espionage, danger, and sharp wit. We can’t wait to unpack Elle and Malcolm’s undercover mission, the stakes of their forbidden alliance, and all the tension that comes with it.

February 12, 5:00- 6:00 PM- 3D Printing: Valentine’s Cards

Make a card that lasts! Learn how to design your own 3D printed Valentine’s Day card using Tinkercad. 

February 16, 7:00- 8:00- Tarot & Romance: Love is in the Cards

Curious about what the cards say about love? Whether you’re a skeptic, a romantic, or just tarot-curious, this program invites you to explore the fascinating connection between tarot and personal relationships. With the help of local tarot reader, Annie Hex, discover romantic archetypes, learn about iconic cards, and find out how tarot can spark reflection and conversation between you and those you love the most.

February 21, 11:00 AM- 12:00 PM- Sound Healing: Rest and Renewal

Noelle of Bare Soul Healing leads this free sound healing session designed to ease the nervous system and quiet the mind. Soothing vibrations from therapeutic instruments such as crystal singing bowls, Koshi chimes, drums and more create a peaceful space for grounding, relaxation, and renewal. This session will pay special attention to the heart chakra, in honor of Valentine’s Day.
