January Display: Society for Creative Anachronism

Jan 4, 2024 | News, Adults, Making and Crafting, Personal Enrichment

January’s Main Lobby display case showcases the Barony of Carraig Ban: the DeKalb area branch of the Society for Creative Anachronism.

The Society for Creative Anachronism is an international educational nonprofit organization dedicated to recreating the arts, foods, clothing, martial arts, and other aspects of the medieval world. Featuring more than just European-style knights, members study the pre-1600 world in all it’s diverse expressions. Local members are particularly interested in Heian Japan, early Ireland, Renaissance Italy, Aztec America, and more! From spinning wool into thread to creating illuminated manuscripts to replicating ancient Greek experiments to engaging in sword and shield combat, the SCA is living archaeology. A fun blend of education, sports, cosplay, performing arts, and service, the SCA is as varied as the people in it, with the unifying thread of fascination with the pre-modern world.

Are you interested in exploring the ancient world? The Barony meets at the DeKalb Public Library on Thursdays for Arts & Sciences night, and on every other Wednesday at Fargo Skate Park for practice.
