Did you know that January 21 is National Squirrel Day?
National Squirrel Day was created by wildlife rehabilitator Christy Hargrove! This day is celebrated to recognize and appreciate our furry neighbors.
Here are some fun facts you may not have known about squirrels:
Celebrate National Squirrel Day by creating one of these fun squirrel feeders!
Making one of these feeders is super simple! You will need:
- Toilet paper rolls
- Bird and/or squirrel feed
- Peanut butter
- Hole punch
- Yarn
- Scissors
- Spreader
- Plate (to hold the seeds)
Instructions:
- Pour the bird/squirrel feed onto a plate
- Using the hole punch, make two holes on the top of the toilet paper roll (one on each side!)
- Using the spreader, take some peanut butter and coat the toilet roll
- Roll the coated toilet paper roll in the squirrel feed that was on the plate, until the roll is completely covered
- Thread the yarn through the two holes in the top and cut at your desired length.
- Tie the loose ends together
- Hang outside for the squirrels to enjoy!
