Hello, Library Families! Miss Julie here to let you know about all the cool crafts coming up in November. If you are interested in joining in on the fun, then head over to DKPL’s Crafty Corner and request permission to join. This group was created especially for kids and parents so that they can have a way to learn new crafts and to share what they have created with their friends. I am particularly excited about the crafts for this month because each week has an option that will take you outside to forage for materials. If you click on the blue links in each of the sections below, they will take you to the materials list for that week’s craft.
This November, we will start the month by creating poppies and American flags in honor of Veteran’s Day. Do you have a favorite veteran in your life that you would like to say “Thank You” to? Then join us on the November 5 at 4:30 PM to make these cute crafts:
During the second week of November, we will make turkeys and jeweled corn to help you decorate for Thanksgiving. This craft takes place on Thursday, November 12 at 4:30 PM, so get out there and collect all the interesting leaves you can find… and maybe if you are lucky, you will find real feathers, too! Then you, too, can have turkeys gracing your refrigerator door, or better yet, give the turkeys and jeweled corn as gifts!
Our final craft for the month takes place on November 19 at 4:30 PM, and it is my favorite! For this one, you will need to go scrounging for a few pine cones. I guess you could buy some from the craft store, but where’s the fun in that? Head out to Afton, Prairie Park, Lions Park, or any of our other wonderful parks and forest preserves that have pine trees and spend some time exploring. When you have your treasures collected, grab the materials listed in the link above so you can make these:
Aren’t those pine cone critters just the cutest? And the flowers will last a very long time, so they will be great to make for gifts, too.
