1,000 Books Before Kindergarten

Jul 27, 2020 | News, Kids, Library & Family Fun

Reading to your child builds language and literacy skills that last a lifetime. It also offers a chance for you to bond with your little one. To help get your child ready for school and ready to read, join us in reading 1000 Books Before Kindergarten!

To participate, sign up at the Children’s Reference Desk, then keep track of the books your child listens to or reads. This can be done on paper or using the free “1000 Books Before Kindergarten” app (available on Android and iPhone). You can count your favorite story as many times as you’d like, so if The Very Hungry Caterpillar is part of your bedtime routine, you can count it every time!

Visit the library after every 100 books to receive a certificate and mark your child’s progress on our Wall of Reading! Our road to a thousand books can be used as a visual guide to mark their progress, and for every 100 books, they can move their car toward the top of the road!

Every 100 books is a new level that is identified by a popular children’s book, so motivate your child to drive over and visit characters like Curious George, Llama Llama, Pete the Cat and Frog and Toad.

Sign up at the Children’s Reference Desk today to get started on your child’s reading journey!
