Summer Reading at DeKalb Public Library begins Monday, June 3, and continues through Saturday, August 10, with summer reading clubs for children, teens, and adults.
Youth Summer Reading
There are four different reading clubs for children age 0-12, so choose the best club for your reading level.
Babies (0-24 months) – Do 48 activities (i.e. 12 of each of the 4 activities listed in your reading log). Color in or cross off 1 picture in your reading log for each activity you complete.
Listeners – Listen to 48 books. Color in or cross off 1 picture in your reading log for each book you listen to.
Beginning Readers – Read 24 books (you may read to yourself OR to another person). Color in or cross off 1 picture in your reading log for each book you read.
Independent Readers – Read for 12 hours. Color in the clocks in your reading log for each hour that you read. As a bonus activity, you may rate the titles you read!
Once you register, you will receive a book log to keep track of your reading. Instructions are on the back.
Beginning Wednesday, June 26, completed reading log may be turned in at the children’s reference desk to receive a FREE book and other prizes, while supplies last! DeKalb cardholders may also enter a raffle if their first reading log is turned in by August 10. Raffle winners will be drawn shortly after Summer Reading ends.
DeKalb cardholders may also turn in bonus reading logs. Completing these will earn you an extra raffle ticket and another FREE book while supplies last. You may complete as many bonus logs as you wish. Non-DeKalb cardholders may participate in all Summer Reading programs that do not require registration and will receive a free book and other prizes upon completion of one reading log.

DeKalb residents will also receive a lanyard and an entry to win one of thirty $20.00 gift cards to Target, Amazon, PlayStation, or Microsoft. After you complete your first log you are welcome to keep completing bonus logs. For every bonus log you complete you will receive a free book while supplies last. DeKalb residents will also receive additional entries to win a gift card.
Three magazine or graphic novels are equal to ONE book. Winners of the prize drawings will be notified on Monday, August 12.
