Are you a Musician, podcaster or YouTuber? Come check out the library’s insulated sound studio where we have a variety of equipment available for use. The studio is an approximately 80 square foot sound resistant room located in the historic Haish building. Available for use by individuals with a valid library card from DeKalb and surrounding communities—and have taken the prerequisite orientation class—the sound studio is ready to assist you in making your next creative endeavor.
With a wide variety of equipment (listed below) available for check-out, the sound studio is well equipped for a variety of recording activities. The Friends of the DeKalb Public Library recently funded an RTA Producer Station for the studio to ensure that you have enough room to work on projects. Patrons are also welcome to use their own equipment.
In order to use the studio, you must have a DeKalb Public Library card in good standing, or a library card in good standing from another library in the PrairieCat system, and must first attend an orientation. You must be at least 18 years of age. Patrons 15-17 may use studio when accompanied by a library cardholder 18 years or older. Group orientations are scheduled periodically and can dates can be found on the library’s calendar and events web page and on our monthly brochures. At these orientations we will cover available equipment, usage policies, behavior guidelines, and basic equipment function. Class sizes are limited and registration begins 30 minutes before class starts in the Nancy D. Castle Collaboration Studio.
The Sound Studio is located in the Haish building near the Tech Desk. Reservations can be made online, in person, or by telephone.
