Read Beyond the Beaten Path, Summer Reading to Begin in May

May 20, 2022 | News, Adults, Kids, Seniors, Teen

Picnics, outdoor games, bike rides and walks… all activities we’re looking forward to with Summer right around the corner. But, don’t forget about Summer Reading at the library!

Summer Reading will begin on Wednesday, May 25, and go through August 12, with this year’s theme being “Read Beyond the Beaten Path.” As always, we have clubs for every age level and a virtual option as well.

Take advantage of our virtual option by downloading the Beanstack app or visting dkpl.beanstack.org to create an account and register for a reading challenge.

Children’s Clubs

Listeners Club:

This is a great club for children who are not yet reading or are just learning to read. Listen for 10 hours to complete the program.

Readers Club:

This club is for children up to age 12 who are reading independently. Read for 10 hours to complete the program.

Both children’s clubs use the same reading logs. You can pick up your first reading log from the library, or print it here.

Log 10 hours and then stop by the children’s department to get a free book and other prizes, while supplies last! Once you complete your first reading log, you’re welcome to fill out bonus logs.

For more information about upcoming events and other Summer Reading programs, download the flyer below. If you have questions, please contact Theresa at [email protected] or at (815) 756-9568 ext. 3350.

Teen Club

The Teen Summer Reading club is for ages 12-18. Read for 10 hours to complete your first log, either on paper or virtually, then stop by the library to collect your prize of a free book and coupon pack from community sponsors. Teens who complete a reading log and are DeKalb Public Library card holders will be entered by a chance to win a grand prize! Grand prizes are:

  • Fargo Skateboard
  • Corn Fest Mega Pass
  • Kindle Fire Tablet
  • 1-month E-Sports Pass

Teens can earn more free books for every additional 10 hours they read. They can also accept the “$25 for 25 Challenge” and read for 25 hours to receive a $25 gift card (limit one) to There’s Fun in Store, our main sponsor.

Print or pick up a reading log from the library.

For more information about the Teen Summer Reading program, contact Susan at [email protected] or at (815) 756-9568 ext. 3400.

Adult Club

Adult readers will have the option of using a paper log or logging their reading online or on their phone with Beanstack. You can register in person at the library, by phone at (815) 756-9568 ext. 2150, or by email at [email protected]

Read or listen to a total of 5 books of your choosing. Record the author and title of each book on your reading log. Return your completed reading log to the Adult Services reference desk by Friday, August 12, 2022, or log your reading in Beanstack. Your reading log serves as a raffle entry for a $20 gift card to a local business drawn at the end of the program (DeKalb Public Library card holders only). You may fill out as many reading logs as you would like!

For more information about Adult Summer Reading, please contact Tristan at [email protected] or at (815) 756-9568 ext. 2114.
