Virtual General Book Club
Monday December 14 @ 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Everyone is welcome to join the Virtual General Book Club as we wrap up 2020 by discussing the novel News of the World by Paulette Jiles.
In the years following the Civil War, Captain Jefferson Kyle Kidd travels around northern Texas to perform live readings from newspapers to paying customers hungry for the news. At one of his stops he is offered a fifty-dollar gold piece to deliver a young orphan girl, Johanna, previously kidnapped by the Kiowa, to her relatives near San Antonio. The four-hundred-mile trek is long, difficult, and dangerous. But once in San Antonio the Captain faces another hurdle that forces him to make a terrible choice— one that will determine not only Johanna’s fate but also his own.
Copies of the book will be available at the library approximately one month before the scheduled discussion. This title is also available as an eBook and can be downloaded through Hoopla, which is available on the library’s website.
