Location:Zimmerman Meeting Room
Songkran is a lunar new year festival most famously celebrated in Thailand but is also celebrated in Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar (though known as Thingyan there), Northern India (Sangken), Sri Lanka, and in parts of Southern China and Northern Vietnam. The festival occurs on the fourth Hindu lunar month and revolves around the cleansing power of water.
The Center for Southeast Asian Studies at Northern Illinois University, along with its language programs and student organizations, host this year’s celebration at the DeKalb Public Library.
All activities are family friendly and include traditional food demonstration, music and dance, arts and crafts, and Songkran photo booth.
Come wash out the old year and begin anew with us! This program is FREE and open to all, no registration required!
