Are you a homeschooler or perhaps someone looking for more information on homeschooling? Or are you a parent looking for a fun way to spend an afternoon? Then check out the DeKalb Library Homeschoolpalooza! This homeschool fair boasts a full roster of events, including an intro to homeschooling workshop, free hearing tests by NIU Speech and Hearing Clinic, rock painting, a gaming tournament sponsored by There’s Fun in Store, visiting with animals from Tails Humane Society, an open Q&A/demonstration on 3D design in the Nancy D. Castle Collaboration Studio, a used curricula swap, and much more.
Vendors will include: DeKalb County Home Educators, Barb City Homeschool Co-op, Usborne Books, Burpee Museum of Natural History, Discovery Center Museum, Ellwood House, Kishwaukee College, Dimensions Dance Academy, Robin’s Nest Bookshoppe, 4-H, Girl Scouts, Scouts BSA, NIU Community School of Arts, Tails Humane Society, Blue Line Driving School, Fargo Skateboarding, The Music Connection, Fargo Skateboarding, There’s Fun in Store, Kid Stuff, DeKalb County History Center, 4-Cs, Society for Creative Anachronisms, Sycamore Park District, DeKalb Park District, Kishwaukee Valley YMCA, and First Student.
We are excited to welcome guest speaker Kathy Wentz! She will be presenting a workshop on Homeschooling 101 upstairs from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., with open Q&A from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. Kathy is an expert on all things homeschooling, so be sure to stop by to get your questions answered.
In addition, the Teen Room will be open during the fair. There will be all-ages rock painting and a library card holder craft. There will also be a gaming tournament for teens and tweens, sponsored and run by There’s Fun in Store. Check in to see what the library has to offer for teens and tweens. While you’re at the Teen Room, stop by Adult Study Room 4 to sign up for a free hearing test with NIU Speech and Hearing Clinic.
If you have any old homeschool materials you don’t want to use, drop them off at the curricula swap table upstairs and pick up something new!
A schedule of the day’s events will be available at the welcome station. Be sure to check out the library’s Parent/Teacher Collection located in the Adult Services department while you’re there! No registration is required. This event is free and open to all.
