General Book Club
Monday October 11 @ 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM
The General Book Club will meet to discuss the memoir Floating in a Most Peculiar Way by Louis Chude-Sokei.
The “first son of the first son” of a leader of the briefly flourishing country of Biafra, Chude-Sokei (director of the African American Studies program at Boston University) was left by his mother in a home for abandoned children in Jamaica. At the age of ten he was finally reunited with her, first in Washington D.C. and then in Los Angeles as it verged on riots and gangsta rap. Experiencing a few complications along the way- such as the way he talked and his obsession with science fiction and David Bowie—the author relates how he learned to become a Black American.
Copies of the October selection will be available at the library following the September 13 discussion.
This book club is intended for adults. No registration is required.
