Event Details

Celebrate Día de los Muertos with the DeKalb Public Library by making your very own ofrenda. The Day of the Dead, or in Spanish, el Día de los Muertos, is a Latin-American holiday that celebrates the lives of those who have passed.

Ofrendas (offerings) are brightly decorated shrines that pay tribute to loved ones. They often contain candles, photographs, and the favorite foods of the departed. These are intended to welcome the dead and secure blessings in the future.

In this program patrons will listen to a brief history lesson about Día de los Muertos and build their own ofrendas. All materials will be provided, but patrons are welcome to bring their own decorations (ex. Family photos, etc.) as well.

This program is first come, first served as there are a limited number of supplies. It is intended for all ages.
