ANNOUNCES RECRUITMENT FOR: LIBRARY DIRECTOR

The Board of Trustees of the DeKalb Public Library seeks a creative and innovative leader as our next Library Director. The successful candidate will be as excited as we are about our new 40,000 sq. ft. expansion and the renovation of our 19,000 sq. ft. art deco building, which is on the National Register of Historic Places. This project is on target for LEED silver certification. DeKalb Public Library is a municipal library governed by a Board of Trustees. The nine members of the Board are nominated by the Mayor of DeKalb and confirmed by the City Council.

The Director will supervise a staff of approximately 30 FTEs and work closely with the Board in administering the Library’s annual $2,000,000 budget. The Library is at the forefront in fostering literacy education in our “communiversity” and has received grant funding for the National Endowment for the Arts Big Read for an unprecedented nine consecutive years. Our cutting-edge technology includes a RFID system, Wi-Fi, more than 50 public access computers, a collaboration laboratory, 3-D printers, and integrated AV systems in its 3 major meeting rooms. The DeKalb Public Library is a fully-participating member of RAILS (Reaching Across Illinois Library System).

The Director must have the ability to work with the Board of Trustees, library staff, and city government to advance the library as a keystone institution for DeKalb.   We require an ALA-accredited Master’s degree in library science and a minimum of six years of progressively responsible professional experience in library management and supervision.  Successful experience with library budgeting and fund raising is highly desirable. See Job Description here.

The starting salary for the Library Director will be $85,000 commensurate with qualifications and experiences.

Please submit a cover letter, resume, salary history, and names and contact information of five professional references to jobapp@dkpl.org. The deadline for applications is September 23, 2016.
