Dee and Gary Coover invite you to come in from the cold and enjoy live entertainment, light refreshments, and a silent auction on Saturday, December 10, 2016 from 5:30—8:30 p.m. in the library’s main lobby. This event will be held after library hours and will act as a thank you from Director Coover to the entire DeKalb community.

Dorothea Bilder has generously provided over 40 pieces of her father’s artwork to be auctioned off with all of the proceeds going to the DeKalb Public Library’s capital campaign.

The following is an excerpt from an issue of the Chicago Sun Times in 1989:

Angelo K. Bilder was born in Istanbul, Turkey to Grecian parents. His father was a professional carver. Inspired by his father’s artistic carving, young Angelo began drawing at the age of seven. The family came to the United States in 1913 and settled in Dayton, Ohio. Bilder took art classes and later attended the Dayton Art Institute. He then attended Chicago Art Institute and graduated with honors. Bilder classified his work as realism and named Gauguin and Picasso as the two artists he admired most. His secret for success, in his own word, is enthusiasm.

Daughter Dorothea Bilder is an accomplished artist as well. She is Professor Emeritus from the School of Art at Northern Illinois University, DeKalb, Illinois. Bilder received a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Painting from Illinois Wesleyan University; and attended the School of Artin Terni, Italy, the Art Institute of Chicago, and Southern Illinois University, receiving a Master of Fine Arts Degree in Painting, respectively.

In addition to the silent auction, Jill and Fareed Haque and an accompanying bass player will provide live entertainment for the community to enjoy. Fareed Haque is a modern guitar virtuoso. Steeped in classical and jazz traditions, his unique command of the guitar and different musical styles inspire his musical ventures with tradition and fearless innovation. He was named “Best World Guitarist” in Guitar Player Magazine 2009 Readers’ Choice Awards.

This event is free and requires no registration.  All are welcome to attend! For more information, please email [email protected] or call (815) 756-9568 ext. 1000.
