On Monday, August 31st, Representative Bob Pritchard and Senator Dave Syverson toured the library addition, which is under construction. They both came to see how the expansion was progressing. This expansion is partially funded by the Illinois State Library and the two political leaders were happy with how construction was coming along.
The Illinois State Library has granted the DKPL with $11.6 million to complete a 46,000 sq. ft. addition, as well as funds to renovate the existing Haish Memorial Library building. The City of DeKalb has also supported this project by contributing a total of $8 million, which consists of bonds and TIF funds. In addition to these monies, the library has also used some of its reserves and three local banks, Castle Bank, NB&T and Resource Bank, have loaned the library $3 million to close the $25.3 million gap that this project required. The library is in the process of raising the $3 million to pay back the loans, $2.1 million of it has been raised already!
