1,000 Book Before Kindergarten

Can you read your child 1,000 books before Kindergarten? Reading to your child builds language and literacy skills that last a lifetime, and increases your own bond with your child. Keep track of the books your child listens to or reads, either on paper or the free 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten app (available on Android and iPhone).  As soon as your child reads 100 books, stop by the Children’s Reference Desk to receive a certificate. The child will receive another certificate for each additional 100 books read. Once they have completed 1,000 books, their name and picture will go on the wall in the Children’s Department in a special display.

Because the library recognizes that parents or another adult will often be the ones reading to the children, we have a special prize for you, too: coupons to local businesses like Common Grounds Coffee Shop, Kid Stuff, Barb City Bagels, and The Gaming Goat.
