Virtual Boast or Roast Teen Book Discussion: Heroine by Mindy McGinnis
Tuesday November 24 @ 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Read or listen to a book nominated for this year’s Lincoln Award List then grab a beverage and join a virtual book discussion boasting why it rocked or roasting why it reeked. Once you register for the program pick up a copy of the book, which is yours to keep, in the Teen Room while supplies last.
In Heroine by Mindy McGinnis find out what happens when a car crash sidelines Mickey just before softball season, and she has to find a way to hold on to her spot as the catcher for a team expected to make a historic tournament run. Behind the plate is the only place she’s ever felt comfortable, and the painkillers she’s been prescribed can help her get there. The pills do more than take away pain; they make her feel good. With a new circle of friends—fellow injured athletes, others with just time to kill—Mickey finds peaceful acceptance, and people with whom words come easily, even if it is just the pills loosening her tongue. But as the pressure to be Mickey Catalan heightens, her need increases, and it becomes less about pain and more about want, something that could send her spiraling out of control.
This free program is for teens, ages 13-17, or in 7th-12th grades.
Registration is required. Once you register you will receive a confirmation email with a link to the Zoom meeting, a phone number to call into the Zoom meeting, and a password to the meeting. Join the Zoom meeting 5 minutes prior to the program, especially if you haven’t used Zoom before.
