SE Asia Graphic Novel: Burma Chronicles

Sat April 27 @ 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM

Join your fellow graphic novel enthusiasts for a book discussion group, facilitated by NIU’s Center for Southeast Asian Studies.

Guy Delisle’s Burma Chronicles centers on a year he spent in the country with his wife and young son. Burma (also known as Myanmar) is notorious for its use of concealment and isolation as a form of social control. Delisle’s travelogue gives the reader a glimpse of life under the military junta. Humor and wit are methods of examination of this most serious of situations. Dr. Matthew Jagel from Northern Illinois University’s Center for Southeast Asian Studies will facilitate discussion and provide historical context for events depicted in the graphic novel.

This FREE program does not require registration. Copies of the graphic novel will be available beginning April 2, in a display outside of the Teen Room, for you to checkout and read ahead of time.

For additional information, please contact Susan at or at (815) 756-9568 ext. 3400.
