Pop-Con: Frankenstein and More
October 13, 2018 @ 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM
Are you a TV addict? Movie aficionado? Comic book collector? Join us for DeKalb Public Library’s second annual Pop-Con: a celebration of pop culture! In honor of the 200th anniversary of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, we’re celebrating all things gothic and creepy. We’ll have sessions for children, teens, and adults.
Go through our top secret escape room in library basement, learn how to do creepy makeup for Halloween, meet animals from Tails and find your familiar, and make ghost pops and zombie pops to take home. Kids can meet Batgirl and Hermione before participating in monster training or taking a trip through the forbidden forest outside of Hogwarts. Geometric monsters are waiting to be created at the tables near the windows in the Youth Department. Grab the best shapes to glue together, add some eyes, and you will have a monster! At the next table you can create your own Creepy Carrot! Coloring pictures will also be available.
Do you have what it takes to be a MONSTER? If so, join us between 10:00 a.m. and noon for Monster Training! Pin the ghost on the haunted house. Crawl through a spiderweb. Then enter the dark woods and learn to lurch and moan and wail.
Find an animal familiar in the Bilder Room. Meet animals from TAILS from 10:00 till noon.
At 11:00 AM in the Yusanas Room Incredible Bats will visit and teach us about Egyptian Fruit Bats and African Straw-colored bats. If you can’t make the show, don’t fear! The bats will be available for viewing in the lobby before and after the program.
Are you a Harry Potter fan? Show of your knowledge and daring by entering the Forbidden Forest to find the various Horcrux!
Afterward you can make a Flying Key. Harry Potter events will be held between 12:30-2:00 p.m.
This program is entirely FREE and is intended for all ages. Everyone is welcome! No registration is required. A brochure of all the activities will be available closer to the program date.
