Container Gardening with DCCG
Saturday July 27 @ 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM
DeKalb County Community Gardens educator Nathan Dettman hosts a second container gardening class at the library! In this class participants will learn tips for successful vegetable gardening using containers and fill containers to take home.
We will start with a short presentation on container gardening. After the presentation, participants will get to pot up a cabbage plant, a basil plant, and will receive a small pot of microgreens to take home.
DCCG will provide the plants, pots, potting soil and seeds in partnership with the Dekalb Public Library and the DeKalb Kiwanis Club’s “Healthy Mind in a Healthy Body” initiative. This initiative encourages physical, mental, and economic health, as well as sustainable living, through a series of programs, lectures, tours, and activities for people of all ages.
Please bring gardening gloves if you wish to use them. We will have trowels to scoop the potting soil, but you will touch the soil during some steps of the process. Use of gloves is at each participant’s preference. The class will be held outside in the Haish Courtyard so remember a hat or sunscreen for your comfort. In the case of inclement weather, the program will be held in the lower level Yusunas Meeting Room of the library.
Participants must register for this program. The first 20 people to register can participate in the class along with their children or a partner or friend. Participants who bring guests, will work together, and get one set of containers to take home. You will take home one cabbage plant, one basil plant, and a small pot of microgreens.
For assistance with registration, please call the library at (815) 756-9568 ext. 1701. For additional information, please contact Nathan at firstname.lastname@example.org.
