Cinematic Teen Reads: Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda
March 14 @ 5:30 PM - 6:30 PM
Compare the book Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli to the trailer for the upcoming movie “Love, Simon.” Does the trailer look like it departs from or follows the book? What did you think of the book? How well did Becky Albertalli write from the perspective of 16 year-old Simon? How well did the story depict the anxiety of “coming out?” Does it look like actor Nick Robinson was a good choice for the lead role or would you have chosen someone else if you were the casting director?
After the program, enter to win a $25.00 AMC gift card to see “Love, Simon,” or another movie of your choice, sponsored by The Friends of DeKalb Public Library.
Sixteen-year-old and not-so-openly gay Simon Spier prefers to save his drama for the school musical. But when an email falls into the wrong hands, his secret is at risk of being thrust into the spotlight. Now, change-averse Simon has to find a way to step out of his comfort zone before he’s pushed out—without alienating his friends, compromising himself, or fumbling a shot at happiness with the most confusing, adorable guy he’s never met.
Copies available on the New Book shelf by the teen room for you to check out and read. Check one out with a friendly Circulation clerk to get the special due date.
This FREE program is intended for teens in grades 6-12. Registration is not required. For additional information, please contact Susan at email@example.com or at (815) 756-9568 ext. 3400.
