Architectural 1930s Downtown DeKalb Tour

October 7th, 2015
Categories: Adults, News

On Saturday, October 17th at 1:00 p.m., the DeKalb Public Library and local historian Steve Bigolin will be hosting an Architectural 1930s Downtown DeKalb Walking Tour.  Come along for this fascinating two-hour tour that will take us on Lincoln Highway from First Street to Seventh Street.  We will begin the tour at the library, outside of the main entrance. Highlights will include the Fargo Theater, places that housed Jacob Haish’s business ventures, the original First National Bank and other interesting places. We will stop  midway through the tour at O’Leary’s Ale House for a refreshments. Because of the uniqueness of the tour, there will only be 30 tickets available.  Tickets are  $50 and 100% of the ticket price is tax-deductible and will be going towards the expansion.  To purchase tickets, visit the library or contact Edith Craig at 815-756-9568 ext. 260 or edithc@dkpl.org.

The DeKalb Public Library financed a total of $3 million from NB&T, Castle Bank, and Resource Bank.  The library is fundraising to pay back these loans.  At this point, the library has raised $2.2 million of this goal!  Fundraising will continue through the end of the year. If you’d like to donate to the expansion fund, visit www.supportdkpl.org.
